Thank you Lola for the mention. I had a similar experience with friends (former?) who confessed not wanting "to write about politics". The murder of 30,000 is NOT politics. The same people came out in droves when an Earthquake hit Turkey and Syria a year ago, and two years ago they came out for Ukraine. I feel there's more to it. Turkey and Ukraine were corporate-approved causes, and unfortunately many people prefer to toe the line.
Looking at it another way, as a reader, when writers follow me I check their feeds. If they have not written a thing about Gaza, I have no incentive to follow them. Their silence presents them as inconsequential writers, and I have no time for their rhyming ditties about roses and a love they never really experienced.
