Regarding your prediction that it “will sound heartless” to some, as I noted, I do feel empathy with the ordinary people who were affected, I mourn the lost lives, and I too have been calling and trying to reach friends and relatives in that area. At the same time, it is not and either/or situation. There’s plenty of room for a nuanced critique of an empire that lights fires all over the world but cannot put out the fires burning it.
