That is the "common wisdom" that the Party has spent hundreds of millions of dollars over 9 years to instill in its voters. Trump is "so bad" that anything a Democratic politician does is beyond reproach, even murdering close to 35,000 innocent people. This is the same logic that birthed Nazi Germany and Stalin. "Don't look at us."

I would gently remind your friends that our parents had the wisdom of voting for divided government. Don't vote the same color up and down the ticket. Let the different branches of government spend four years at an impasse, battling each other in courts, instead of battling the people of the world. Really, though, we should be working for our own empowerment and real democracy.
