One can say that about any war. In this situation, saying "both sides" ignores the huge asymmetry in this case. Fact is: Gaza is devastated, 15,000 Palestinians are dead, more than 10 times the 1,200 Israeli dead on Oct. 7. Fact is, Israel has occupied Gaza and the West Bank for 56 years, it had and still has total control of the borders and the airspace.
As I write here, state oppression is quieter and more gradual, but also more systematic and overwhelming.

βThe daily violence of the Occupation was ignored. The Closure, checkpoints, and sieges could not be enforced without violence. The violence of detentions, home demolitions, permits, and other forms of state oppression is quieter and more gradual than the few headline-grabbing suicide bombs.β
