Looking at the ouster of Claudine Gay from the historical lens of racial dynamics sheds light on only part of her story. America does not have a problem elevating people from minority backgrounds as long as they're singing the tune of the empire. Think Colin Powell or Kamala Harris. Gay's sin was to stand up to truth and refuse to besmear student organizations calling for justice in Palestine, defending their right to freedom of speech. She dared push back against power. That's why they went after her. They didn't go after her merely because she was a successful black person, but because she was exercising her role with the utmost integrity.
