β€œNablus lies in the center of the northern portion of the West Bank. The city is nestled in the valley between two mountains.” (Photos by the author, 2019)

β€œMother faced a new beginning. Her entire life was uprooted. Her belongings all gone, her memories of Yafa relegated to oblivion. She was 16 years old in the earliest photograph I saw of her. Her childhood photos were left in Yafa, to be trampled by the bulldozers that knocked down her house. In Nablus, her education helped her find nursing work with the Red Cross, administering basic medical care to the thousands of refugee children flooding the city.”

β€œBy the time we reached Silwad, almost halfway to Nablus, the sun peeked over the ridge. The golden sunlight glittered over the olive leaves, casting a spectrum of hues on the brownish soil.”
