Excellent point of view. I taught college kids. By the time they made it this far, they have already internalized their American names. Students from a Chinese background go by their initials. I tried my best to learn and remember their original names, but if I were to talk about them to anyone else in the department, I would have to use the Americanized name or no one else would know who I’m talking about
