I gingerly stepped around a homeless woman sitting on the steps of the church, mindful of the box of books in my arms. βWhat if she attended the talk I was about to give,β a disturbing thought flashed through my mind. What do I have to say to her about personal responsibility?
βWE ARE ALL CONNECTED! On personal responsibility and reclaiming human connectionβ β Such was my talk billed.
I had already decided that morning to depart from the script for that last of three talks I was giving in Ontario, this time at Silver Spire United Church in St. Catharines. The night before, at the nearby Trillium United Church, the audience was eager to learn practical steps they can take to help Palestine, and their own communities. Homelessness was repeatedly brought up as their local crisis. The cost of housing has become higher than many in the Niagara region can afford.
