A Simple Question to My American Friends

How many murdered babies will it take for you to see Zionism as the abomination it is?

Why is it that few Americans tell me, β€œSorry for what my country is doing to your people,” without β€œbut-Hamas”ing it in the same sentence?

Why the caveat?

Is it a cultural expectation to appear fair and wise by considering all sides to an issue? Where was that neutrality when Russia invaded Ukraine?

Is it an internalized conformity, formed by decades of misinformation and othering of Palestinians and Arabs by the corporate media?

Is it an internalized guilt for the Holocaust? A belief, coagulated over decades of Holocaust museum visits and assigned readings in school, that the survivors of one of the worst episodes of mass murder in history can themselves do no wrong, ever?

Is it an internalized fear, that if you didn’t both-side it and express empathy with the Israelis, that you would lose your job, or be slandered for posterity? With billionaires putting jobs to the chainsaw, even in government, do you fear the next one down would be yours?

Is it an internalized cultural racism, to identify more closely with those whose Bible you read than with the readers of other Holy Books?
